Notre Dame Association of Prayer
In order to respond to the invitation that Our Lady made on the 17th January 1871 : “OH ! DO PRAY MY CHILDREN GOD WILL ANSWER YOU VERY SOON. MY SON LETS HIS HEART BE TOUCHED”, Monsignor Wicart, first Bishop of Laval, established in 1872 an association of prayer originaly for children, then extended to adults. On 23 March 1877, Pope Pius IX raised the status of the Association to a brotherhood with the title “Our Lady of Hope”, which afforded a short time afterwards varied spiritual graces (indulgences). On 22 December 1897, Pope Leo XIII changed the title to Our Lady of Prayer. On 15 October 1900, the Bishop consecrated the new Church and Pope Pius X raised it’s status to a minor Basilica on 21 February 1905. The Basilica is now the headquarters of the Notre Dame Association of Prayer.
The aim of the Association : to make the name of Our Lady a living presence :
to persever in prayer
to increase in hope through the contemplation of the pascal mystery of Christ.
Each member is concerned with engaging with the work that God has called to be taken on :
to pray daily to Mary
to present to God the important intentions of the Church and of the world and all those presented by the pilgrims
to celebrate in a special way the feasts of the Virgin Mary, on 17 January and on the 17th of each month.
If you wish to join this association, you would be most welcome.
